Background:

Access Group is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable loans and a range of related financial services for students pursuing higher education.
The company recently relocated to new quarters with a very unusual configuration: an L-shaped, two-story space bounded on one side by a 25 ft x 220 ft wall. Windows are on the outer edges of the L.

Challenges:

• Transform the large, bland expanse of wall — the central focus of the space — to make it work as a positive visual environmental component.

• Wherever appropriate, integrate the Access Group artwork collection, previously acquired by MkM Fine Art for the company’s former offices, into the new workspaces and conference areas.

Results:

The problem of the “dead space” of the large interior wall was ingeniously and handsomely solved by subtly mobile artworks. Using various shapes and finishes of aluminum, the artist created four 12 ft x 12 ft curtains consisting of freely movable elements. The curtains provide a constant source of delicate motion as they respond to the air currents generated by vents at the balcony level. The viewer is rewarded by a quietly rustling, ever-changing display.
Existing art was installed in various conference centers and meeting rooms. The works include textiles and ceramics as well as fine-art paintings and prints.

The finely detailed subjects of these encaustic paintings with their crazed backgrounds work well with the minimalism of this meeting space. Click on a painting for a close up detail.
A series of brightly hued giclee prints, inspired by specific pieces of music, bring life to a windowless ground floor conference center.
